one, two, three marlenas

So. Picture this. I'm on iTunes, just browsing music, and I happened to stumble upon this album by the Wallflowers, "Bringing Down the Horse." The big song off of it was, "One Headlight" and guess what? I hated that shit. It was on the radio all the time, and on top of that? All of my friends thought Jakob Dylan was the hottest man ever. It really irked me.

We had to go to DC for this trip and my one friend had this picture (below) that she kept by her bed in the hotel and gazed at on the bus the entire time! I was all, "What the HELL I HATE HIM!" Yeah, the picture shows off his nice eyes, but other than that? Not feelin' it.

SO back to itunes. I stumble upon this album and I'm like, "Wonder if I'd like it now" so I previewed some tracks. I remembered that I kinda sorta liked, "6th Avenue Heartache", but it was totally a "bitter like". Then there were other songs like, "Three Marlenas" and "The Difference" and guess what? I previewed the other songs and it really wasn't that bad. In fact, I can say that, based on the preview, it was a good album.

The problem? I finally like the album enough to buy it and guess what? Becuase the music industry sucks shit now - this CD? Not anywhere. Well okay, it was in a local F.Y.E for $20.00, but, come on. I used to hate this band. I am only willing to spend $13.99 tops. This CD was huge in 97/98.. why don't they keep the hits stocked?!

Ah well. Sorry Wallflowers. I tried. Maybe one day I'll find you for the cheap price I desire.

Anyway, you know what song I'll never forgive for being made?

wind me up and watch me spin

soooo the other niiiiggghhhhttttt..... Jenell and I (and 14,998 other people) went to see the Foo Fighters. See? Proof. Now if you KNOW me, you KNOW, I love le foo la fighters. And while they say they love coming to Philly, they hardly ever do it. So when they come it's a momentous occasion for me.
I was totally jealous of their stage set up. The big walk way that went out halfway into the crowd... the acoustic stage.. their fun intermission with live video...
All in All it was a woooonnderful show. Dave is one of the best front men EVVAAA. He's so funny on stage. I've never seen a bad Foo Fighters show (then again, I'm so biased.. I probably would have thought that Hershey Park show was AWESOME). I just hope they come back sometime sooner than later.
hopefully when it's warmer so we won't have to walk three miles to the venue in the cold again..
horraaay!

she was the type to watch "oprah" and "the today show"

the album for ze Jenell and the Yets has been mastered and we are that much closer to having it all done for your listening pleasure.
We've learned in James' studio that myspace can be an amazing tool for promotion. FOR INSTANCE.. to gain friends you can comment with things like this:
"You like AC/DC? People say we sound like AC/DC and we're right here in town! Maybe we should be friends!"

But of course, we are aware that myspace can be as addictive as crack... some things we've learned:
- Sometimes, spending too much time on myspace may lead us to forget to practice. so we have to remember to divide our days between myspace and practicing.
- Avoid Whore Trains

I guess myspace is even good for making people in highschool jealous cause you're in a band?
I don't know.
but Thank you Bob Baker for my future music career.

all the non-believers, they get to eat dirt

One thing I will miss about moving one day is Philly crowds at shows. From what I hear, crowds in NYC are nothing but shitty. All they do apprently is stand there.
And while Philly has crowds with obnoxious people singing, at least they have a personality. I felt like Regina really felt the love. It was a good environment. People were feeling it. They all jammed into the aisles just to get closer to her.
I like seeing Regina live. She's pretty amazing, pretty flawless. Asides from that whole breaking her own guitar thing... but hey... that gave her rock n roll cred, so it's all good.

oh stranger things have happened... i know.

look, i know nathan lost his finger and all but i've got far more important things to touch on. (no pun intended, nate.)

today was insane, ze band practiced for a really long time and learned new songs so if you come and see us on OCTOBER 12th in Millville at Bogarts, you will hear new BAND material.

BUT. My favorite band of ten years, the Foo Fighters, released their 6th album today! I went and bought it on my lunch break and I still haven't listened all the way through (i've been busy). But as I update I'm listening and guess what? SO FAR SO GOOD. But I say that about everything they do, so really, i'm a very biased critic. But it's a bit different from their other albums, but these songs just seem so much more.. together or something. I don't know, but I'm happy that they haven't let me down with this album. I was scared at first.. reading interviews about how they were going for a SteelyDan-PeterFrampton inspired record, but I don't know what they're talking about. I think they were insane for a minute.

Anyway, long story short: Nathan no longer has his right index finger, Jenell gives a rockin guitar cue when needed, Gizmo is very judgemental, I'd give someone's left nut to be able to speak fluent backwards, and the foo fighters are still my favorite band and they're amazing.

ps. dave grohl, if you are reading this, it's time we met. for real. this has gone on long enough, next time you're in philly, call my people, we'll do lunch.

cold turkey has got me on the run

Jenell, James and I pretty much finished up the record.***

Luckily... no one has got that Limousine Complex yet... you know the one that says you expect a limo to pull up and send you off to fame at any minute? Thankfully.

gone to the dogs

okay so two nights in a row jenell and i were given oppurtunities to see army of me open up for one of my favorite highschool bands - the used.
First night? I was left behind old people, waiting for elevators and running through parking garages while they were on.
Second night? We were so so lost in North Jersey. I think that some guy came and reversed and messed up all the signs YEARS ago and no one has bothered to fix it. So we BOTH missed their set. (much thanks to don for getting us there! AGAIN.)
BUT AT LEAST Hemmingway was entertaining with the new autograph policy.

old time grudges will die so slowly

this place is crazy on EVERYTHING. Check it out:
- we see this little girl being led out of the mosh pit with her friend and is hypervenlating and crying. She looked about 13 and she had to be like 4'11" or something. About 15 minutes later, her mom and her collide after a running hug and the mom is hugging her and saying, "oh thank god" and then kissing her head and rubbing her face...
we tried not to laugh, cause obviously the girl just didn't realize what she was getting herself into in the mosh pit and her mom thought her baby was almost DEAD.
- saw some girl collapse
- heard this doctor and security trying to find some guys dad because his son hit some guy in the throat and that guy couldnt breathe? idont know.
- their security are sharks for fuckin' cameras in bags...

so give me your hand and let's jumpt out the window

While James sat and jammed in his chair while fixing up parts on "End of the Night", Jenell helped me explore some settings on my camera.
For instance:
smile like a child, sports (pictured above), you got a cake, tree, splashing water, robot, anti-shake, and makea frame.

There are more settings, but just as we were really getting into it, we had to talk about fade outs.
Settings such as fish, tackle, building at night, toothy grin, kaboom, and food will have to wait for another day.
Cameras are great!

all we are saying is "give peace a chance"

i'm noticing that a lot of the time (not ALL the time) - when a guy has an acoustic guitar - he is more than likely going to be a clone of one of the following:
  • jack johnson
  • john mayer
  • dave mattthews
come on guys. get creative here. perhaps try writing music that would be fitting for storming castles?

papers are signed and i feel so low

INTERESTING HAPPENINGS TONIGHT AT THIRD FRIDAY:
  • Downpour on all the unsuspecting public
  • Ze Je-Nell at Revelation Records
  • All the firetrucks and ambulances on high street do to someone running into Regional Music. They went forward instead of backwards. D'oh.
  • totally random conversation with someone I haven't seen in a long time that lasted about 30 seconds
  • A new found hope to release Jenell and the Yets album by October so we can say "Octobot" with the date.

i feel as though i'm fighting for a hopeless cause

what was great about the evening with hello tokyo is we hardly had to spend time in a loud, crowded bar. John let us preview HT's album, so we in turn let him hear a song off the upcoming Jenell and the Yets album! We discussed the band's own Incovient Truths and upcoming trips...

but what was sad about this night? I lost mah CMC badge :(

it's all in the way we know that we could have it all

Jenell and I went to an Open Mic thing tonight at some record store. I bought another copy of Bush's "Razorblade Suitcase" which I lost long ago. That was the first album I really fell in love with I think. Well, it was the first album that I knew a release date of and went to the store day of and listened to over and over again.

I'm listening to it now and it totally takes me back to my bedroom when I was 12 years old. I remember where my dresser was, my bed, the posters on my wall. But I really remember laying on my floor with my feet on my dresser and listening to this album while staring at Gavin Rossdale *SIGH*

But this is totally a winter album. If that makes any sense.

i'm finished making sense

Although tonight four bands performed that were NOT Jenell (and the yets) ( BUT check out Pappertrigger - they were pretty intense and a change from what you normally see at shows like this.) WE MADE A LOT OF CASH-IDEAS

$$$$$$$$$
- promises from three people that they will buy our CD when it "drops"
- $4 in pins sold (as displayed by Vince.)!
- A grand scheme put together with conrado to make BILLIONS

Within no time, we too will be getting big buses, huge checks, and dates with Scarlett Johansson on the weekends! HA!

PS LISA I'M GLAD YOU'RE ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you hear me, start acting like you want me

while recording earlier, we discovered many things.
James' Robots, Mr. Arpeggiator, the red stripe song, Nathan is an amazing drum machine whom pisses excellence, Frogs don't say much but it is addictive, MYSPACE can be addictive as crack, and while there were many more things discovered, there was one thing that was very important and uh.. discovered.

"THE YETS", people. We have decided it's "JENELL AND THE YETS" . You heard it hear first!

my salsa

The other day, Jenell went and saw this exhibit in Cape May and after hearing that she could actually get a piece, we went back today.

I really liked this exhibit though. Reading all the parts about all the different pieces really made me appreciate John Lennon more. I mean obviously, he's a great musician and I've heard a TON of good things about him from Jenell, but seeing some of his art work I saw he was a really sweet person who had a sense of humor, was really in love and just a big ol' hippie, really.

Jenell got some handwritten lyrics today and I thought that was really cool. John Lennon is like her music God and although - sadly - she could never meet him, she now owns something that was a part of him. How cool is that? I like stuff like that. One time my family and I went to the Hard Rock Cafe, I think the one in Orlando, and we sat right under a signed copy of "The Colour and the Shape" by the Foo Fighters and I took a picture and everything. I'd pay money to own some hand written lyrics from Mr. Grohl. That kind of stuff is just neat.

So yeah, I was really happy Jenell got that for herself. GOOD FOR HER. One day when we have lots of money, I know what I'm getting her for her birthday!

Oh darling, let me go

Crazy Morning...
didn't sleep, and without sleep, we poved that we can still be amazing. Jenell and I made an elaborate dance for "Cupid's Chokehold" that we totally did NOT get to share with these 2 fine gentlemen. But more important things had to be discussed like Eddie Murphy, cars, musicans, etc, etc.
AND YET AGAIN - Jenell and I were the spirit that kept the crowd ALIVE.

ATTENTION: if you are a musican and have to play awkward shows for about 20 people, you can hire Jenell and I to participate in conversation with you. We will ask questions as well as sing along and laugh at anything you say during the performance.

.... we'll work out a price!
