no more lonely nights

I think Nicky Hornby is a pretty great author -  so, naturally, I was excited to see that he was coming out with a new book, "Juliet, Naked".  When I first started reading the book it was a little jarring because I was so used to reading fiction books, so it was weird going back into non-fiction, but, once I got over that hump I enjoyed the book.  I didn't love it though.  I was reading through it and just feeling very "Eh" about it.

The ending did make me like the book more though, which I think is cheating, haha.  But I had a, "I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE" moment at the end.  Tricky, tricky, Mr. Hornby.  Trick, tricky.....

It's offical.  Rob Sheffield wrote another book I love.  He tells a lot of stories about music and I just dig it.  I felt bad when I got to the last chapter cause I knew the book was almost over.  Like I've said before, Rob should write a book for me to read every month.

it's the time that keeps me young

Julie Klausner is a comedian (I think being a writer/commentator for "Best Week Ever" is her most famous stuff, but i don't know!) that decided to write a book about the relationships she's gone through in her teens through her 20s.  It was pretty funny, and some of the stories were ridiculous, and I liked how she learned a lesson from all the douchers she dated and shared the lesson with the reader which made me think, "preach it, girl!" a lot.
But it was a fun book with lots of short stories about all the odd men she's dated throughout the years.  I don't know if I'd recommend it to a guy, but girls, go for it.  She actually offers some really great advice throughout the book.

I wrote up these books for two kids in the classroom I'm in a lot.
I was rushed through making them and it annoyed me to no end because once I started them, I wanted them to be legit!

But when some kids want something, they want immediate results.

But, I think now that they're in my possession, I'll work them out and actually write what I wanted to write.  Show those kids what's up.

i wish the tide would take me over

It's nice outside again, that means I want to read books again.  I don't know what it is about warm weather but it's the only time during the year I really WANT to read.  I don't get it!

Anyway, I read "The Stranger" by Albert Camus.  I didn't know much about it, but while doing my research in Barnes and Noble, I found out it was a "Classic" and found out that sometimes philosophy courses use it as a piece of discussion.  Since I loved my philosophy class in college, I decided, "Why not take a crazy chance?" and bought it.  Thanks, Duff!

The book was a suuuper quick read and I liked it.  There were just so many things nagging me.  The absurdity of the narrator's trial (but I get it, that's the idea..) and my modern mind was mad for the narrator cause I feel like if the trial was now he could have plead insanity.    Then again, he seemed to fit the criteria for a serial killer..... But this book made you just feel sorry for the guy!!

Anyway, the book was good.  And it really did bring up a lot of points that made you think, so I did like it and I'd recommend it.   I just got hung up on the wrong thing.. omg just like the lawyers. !!!!

I read, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer this week.

Not that you can tell from the picture above, but this book is pretty depressing. I bought it on Friday, started it on Saturday, finished it on Wednesday evening and was depressed for the rest of the night. It's kind of strange because the books ends on an up note and everything... but there's something about a book being told through the voice of a 9 year old whose father died in 9/11 that really bums you out..........hm.

I liked it a lot, though. It was unique with it's pictures, with the blocked out words, the corrections in red pen, etc etc. And little Oskar is so innocent, sad, traumatized.. with a set of really heavy boots.

I just finished, "Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey" by Mr. Chuck Palahniuk, aka the guy who wrote "Fight Club". I'm still trying to decide how I feel about it.
I went through phases. Chuck got me all hooked on hearing about Rant and his rabies and hillbilliness and all the crazy shit he did.
Then, it felt like act 2 started and he talked FOREVER AND EVER about Party Crashing and people who were NOT Rant and he started to lose me.
And by the final act, he had me again. I really liked how the book ended, he always has good plot twists.
I don't know though. I feel like when you read one Palahniuk book, you basically have an understanding of whats going to happen when you read this book. I haven't read them all, but this is my 3rd. The three I've read have all been really good books by them selves, but when you compare them to the other two, there's a huge sense of familiartiy. A troubled main character who has a very -quirky - personality trait/life, a - quirky - girl, some life changing/end of the world decision that weighs on them, then the plot twist.

That being said, I'm not hating on this book, it's a really good book. I liked how the story was told through other people's stories, and I really liked Rant (so much so that I got bored when people weren't talking about him). I even wanna go back and re-read some parts knowing the end of the book. A good book, I'm just saying, I feel like it's a familiar outline.

went to the new Sonic with my FAM tonight. The line was ridiculously long and I dont think it was worth the wait. Jenell tells me their shakes are where it's at... so we'll see...

I only have 20 more pages left in When You Are Engulfed In Flames by Mr. David Sedaris. I've really enjoyed this one TOO, surprise surprise. Anyway, I was reading the chapter about smoking and I came across the above part. I was like, "Aw man." Holla at ya, Student No. 2. You are not alone, my friend.
Jenell's mom got some nightlights. I've never been a nightlight person, but I was gifted one of these nightlights, and dude, I love it. I like that I can shut off my lights and make it safely to my bed. Not only that but it matches my new wall color perfectly. One day I'll post pictures of my new room once I get all the pictures up. I need lasers or something, I dont know.

i don't think i'll make it on my own

I really like David Sedaris' books. The way he tells his stories with such sarcasm and dark humor is amazing. I just finished "Dress your Family in Corduroy" and it, like the others was filled with good short stories. This one seemed a bit more introspective and "I'm learning" than the other books, but it was still really funny. David is WAY better than a guy who writes books about guys takin care of business* and making whoopie* with their girlfriend. I think he's my favorite author, for realz, friends.

i just can't walk away this time

Okay, so awhile ago, Eavvon made a post in his blog about a book called, "The Average American Male: A novel" by Chad Kultgen. And while searching for some book to catch my interest that night, I came across this one by chance, read the first chapter and my mission was accomplished.

WELL a day later, I'm done the book. It's a pretty easy read and it's really funny. Since the book is about the life Average American Male, a lot of his day includes thinking about and experiencing sex, and as the reader, we are privy to these thoughts which at time makes the book rather porn-ish. BUT HEY, it's still good.

I really liked the end of the book though. The entire book is really exaggerated (at least I hope so...) and the end really was perfect for that idea.

In conclusion, thanks Eavvon for wanting to buy this book. If you want, since I'm a good friend, I'll send you my copy!

you can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart

I love this book.
It's like "High Fidelity" but focusing on the love and loss of one woman rather than 5.

The story of the author's relationship with his wife pre-her/with her/after her (who also loves music JUST AS MUCH as him!) is all told through his relationship with music, and - for a music geek like myself - it's so amazing. He even starts each chapter with a mixtape from some point in the author's life and it sets the mood for the entire chapter.

AS A MATTER OF FACT - a few nights ago, I read it and cried. Then today I read it in work today and tried not to cry again, and then I got to the last chapter and stopped with 20 minutes before all the kids woke up because I don't want this book to end.

What it really made me want to do is make a mix tape (cd) every so often and date it, and listen to it later in life and reflect on it like he does so often in the book.

Whatever, everyone, if you love music and really feel for it and its a major part of your life - just buy this book. It's a really honest, heartfelt story and damn it.. it's toat tube.

i don't know why, don't know why, don't know why you stay

I finished the book Suvivor by Chuck Palahniuk earlier. At first I was thinking it was a bit tedious. The main character reminded me a lot of the main character in "Choke", it was the same writing style and all.

BUT. HOWEVER. I really liked this book. It's such a sad tale and Joey and I are later going to talk about what happened at the end, because I was bummed out and sad about the ending but he gave me a ray of hope when I texted him about it..

But that whole part with his brother and the landfill of porn? Heartbreaking.
