these are my famous last words

AW SNAP!
A new Foo Fighters album!
I was really stoked about this because lots of reviews were saying it was so good, and I was totally buying into that hype.  I loved "Rope" and I loved the songs that were played in the "Back and Forth" documentary they played.. so I WAS STOKED.
And I was not let down.  This album is pretty badass.  Again, I might be completely biased in this opinion, but eh, I think it's good.  I feel safe in saying if you like the Foo Fighters, you'll like this album.  It sounds like a Foo Fighters album

I don't even know what song to share, I like them all, so just take track one, "bridge burning"

you die to heal

I'll TAKE IT.

ps.  Happy Birthday to Mr. David Grohl.  You're the creme de la creme.  Celebrate:

this video is classic.  It's sad though because I bet teenagers today wouldn't "get" it.  Do mentos commercials even exist anymore?  for shame.   Anyway.  Yes.  Happy Birthday, Dave!  Stoked for new music this yeeeaaarrr

i run a tidy bakery

I love seeing "COMP" or "$0.00" on concert tickets!!! I won tickets to the Honda Civic Tour by texting in at right time on morning before work.  This means I got to go see Kawa-dada (that is probably not his name), New Found Glory, Tegan and Sara, and Paramore....FOR FREE!  WHACHA!!
I'm pretty good at winning radio contents (knock on wood..)  I've also won the following:
(1) Foo Fighters Tickets
(2) Good Charlotte Tickets
(3) Y100 FEZtival Tickets
(4) I won Weezer Tickets once.  They said I won and then when they put me on hold to get my information, they realized the contest was over in the last hour.  So I guess I didn't win.  But I did...  Damn it.

and now this.  One day I'll have to focus on trying to win a radio contest that offers trips or money....

And after I picked up the tickets... this happened:

i want to bathe with you in the sea

soooooooooooooo

Jenell and I went to west chester to see TAYLOR HAWKINS AND THE COATTAIL RIDERS.

Of course, with this comes opening bands. Here is a picture of one of them.
This dude ... sigh. He said something to the effect of, "Some people would call this a stage, but we call it the Hospital of Regrets and Dreams" or something like that. And in this photo above, he's hugging an empty Heart Box that was once filled with chocolates (i presume).. things like this happened. "Have you ever stared at the sun for so long that you saw spots? That's what this song is all about. It's called, 'Spots from the Sunlight" I mean come on...

However. The lead singer was actually very nice, and if we never went to say good bye to him... we would have never met Taylor, so I'm not gonna give their name and mock them too much.. He should just lose his stage persona cause it was a bit ridiculous.

ANYWAY, this is Taylor Hawkins. Horraaay. I liked his set very much. Jenell even danced to "Cold Day in the Sun" -- yeah she danced it out!

BUT ANYWAY WE MET TAYLOR HAWKINS LATER. YEAH WE DID. I kept whispering to Jenell, "I've never been this close to a foo fighter!" and things like, "i'm gonna tell him we have the same birthday!" ohhh lots of stupid things. One time, I met my favorite female bass player, Melissa Auf der Maur, and she said something and I stupidly spit out, "I want a picture with just you cause you're my idol" almost as simply as someone would say, "Pass me the ketchup?" And mind you, I was 20 at this point. So I had no excuse!!

So of course, when I went to talk to Taylor, all I could think to say was, "We have the same birthday" .... but no. Thank GOD I did not spew that out. Instead, Jenell told him that Dave Grohl was a better singer than him. And he was also informed of what a big fan I was. I just thank God I didn't tell him we had the same birthday... or that we both have 13 letters in our name AND we're 13 years apart in age.... or that when I was 14 I taped my head over his girlfriend's head.... THINGS LIKE THAT. I'm happy that all stayed in my mouth.

But yeah, what DO you say to someone you who had such a big impact on your life? You're standing there with a crowd of people, and you get your "moment" with them and what do you say? To me, spitting out something like, "you've had such a huge impact on my life!" is so cheesy to say.

Essentially, they're just a stranger whom you happen to know a LOT about, but they know nothing about you. So WHAT do you say?

All I know is I was shakey and nervous and went completely blank, haha.

But, I'm super excited about it and I'm suuuper stoked it happen and that Jenell was there so more happened than just a signed ticket haha.

HISTORY, PEOPLE!

woke up in my head, good times never end

Why what is this?  Oh yes.  It's my autographed Taylor Hawkins & the Coattail Riders cd.  Taylor decided to send it to me cause he knew how big of a foo fighters fan I've been over the years.

.......That or I ordered it online.. WHO'S TO SAY?  It's tomato/tomato (that phrase doesn't work so well in type form, huh?)

I do know that my younger self would be STOKED to own something that has been touched by a member of the Foo Fighters... okay I'm happy about it NOW too... but back when I was 13, I probably would have locked it in an air tight safe and prayed to it or something.

Anyway, this is the newest Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders cd.  I fell in love with Taylor when I was 13 years old.  I wanted to marry him and have a bazillion and 2  babies with him.  His picture was all over my wall and has been, by far, my biggest celebrity crush ever to exist.   For that reason (and my love of the foo fighters), I support other musical projects of his, and it's just my luck that I happen to like his music as well.  Check out the single from the album, "Way Down" - very Queenish/70s rock bleeding into 80s rock a bit.  Maybe it sounds influenced by Queen because he has 2 members of Queen on the album, as well as the incredible Dave Grohl.  Not to mention former guitarist of Alanis Morrissette's tour band (YES THAT IS HIS SIGNATURE ON THE COVER AS WELL, omg, right?).. anyway.. enjoy!

my heart is under arrest again

Today was a day to buy music from people who grew up in the DC area.
Example 1.
Vince from Army of Me released an EP and I bought it. It's something he's really been putting a lot of time and energy into, he's been obviously passionate about making it, and it's great he finally got it out.

The one song, "Love Song" is one that I fell for upon first listen. I really dig the lyrics to it and totally was all about this song! Anyway, he told me at one point that he didn't think it was going to make the cut, so I'm happy, that at the end of the day, he wised up and put it on the EP and that the masses can appreciate it. Go listen to it at the myspace.
Example 2.
The Foo Fighters Greatest Hits. How could I not buy this? Even though I pretty much have all the songs (except for 3) - they're my band through thick and thin.

So yeah, Thank you DC for giving me 2 good CDs today. Appreciated.

wind me up and watch me spin

soooo the other niiiiggghhhhttttt..... Jenell and I (and 14,998 other people) went to see the Foo Fighters. See? Proof. Now if you KNOW me, you KNOW, I love le foo la fighters. And while they say they love coming to Philly, they hardly ever do it. So when they come it's a momentous occasion for me.
I was totally jealous of their stage set up. The big walk way that went out halfway into the crowd... the acoustic stage.. their fun intermission with live video...
All in All it was a woooonnderful show. Dave is one of the best front men EVVAAA. He's so funny on stage. I've never seen a bad Foo Fighters show (then again, I'm so biased.. I probably would have thought that Hershey Park show was AWESOME). I just hope they come back sometime sooner than later.
hopefully when it's warmer so we won't have to walk three miles to the venue in the cold again..
horraaay!

this love is a cancer in me

The Foo Fighters made a new album over the summer and released it a few weeks ago or something. I can't remember how long ago it was and I don't feel like pulling up a calendar.

but anyway. I have to say that I'm pretty sure it's my favorite album they've put out. I think. I don't know if I'm still just excited to have new material or what, but I love it.

It's weird, I listen to this album and it makes me feel like "OnexOne" and "In Your Honor" were almost like transitional albums to this one. This album is a throw back to "There's Nothing Left to Lose" and "The Colour and the Shape", except, like I said before, more mature and better put together.

It's a great album. I love every track, there are no "filler" tracks or anything! I'd recommend it!

BUT THEN AGAIN - I could be just biased :)

oh stranger things have happened... i know.

look, i know nathan lost his finger and all but i've got far more important things to touch on. (no pun intended, nate.)

today was insane, ze band practiced for a really long time and learned new songs so if you come and see us on OCTOBER 12th in Millville at Bogarts, you will hear new BAND material.

BUT. My favorite band of ten years, the Foo Fighters, released their 6th album today! I went and bought it on my lunch break and I still haven't listened all the way through (i've been busy). But as I update I'm listening and guess what? SO FAR SO GOOD. But I say that about everything they do, so really, i'm a very biased critic. But it's a bit different from their other albums, but these songs just seem so much more.. together or something. I don't know, but I'm happy that they haven't let me down with this album. I was scared at first.. reading interviews about how they were going for a SteelyDan-PeterFrampton inspired record, but I don't know what they're talking about. I think they were insane for a minute.

Anyway, long story short: Nathan no longer has his right index finger, Jenell gives a rockin guitar cue when needed, Gizmo is very judgemental, I'd give someone's left nut to be able to speak fluent backwards, and the foo fighters are still my favorite band and they're amazing.

ps. dave grohl, if you are reading this, it's time we met. for real. this has gone on long enough, next time you're in philly, call my people, we'll do lunch.
