so Jenell and I went to Philadelphia to see the loverly Nicole Atkins and the Sea. WELL. I was having a good day.. only had to wait about 20 minutes to get my car inspected.. i did some laundry.. it was going okay. I offer to drive up .. whatever..
Well then - a few things happened!
- When we were almost to the place, I shut off Karen (gps) without thinking. I realized we still need her, go to turn her back on and guess what? Karen was dead! Karen died!
- So we're trying to maneuver our way back to where we need to be and it just wasn't working out. We were going up in numbers when we needed to be going down and all this terrible stuff like almost dying.. whatever!
- Eventually we were told to make a left turn.. so I'm waiting to turn - I turn - cop pulls me over. Why? Because I wasn't allowed to turn there. I DIDN'T SEE THE SIGN! I was too busy wondering why he crossed the intersection so slow. All I saw was the "ONE WAY" sign. DIZAM! $118 I WONT BE SPENDING!! DAMN IT!
- So whatever, we finally make it to the venue, 45 minutes later than expected. We had planned to get a table so we could sit and eat but guess what? They were all filled so we had to stand like the poor children who had to stare at all the rich people and watch them eat.
- Some assholes came up like 2 minutes before the show started and the guy stopped suddenly, causing his girlfriend to run into him which caused her to spill her beer on my shoe and jacket. She only made it worse when she shook her hand to get the beer off and it went all over me. Then they stood there and blocked my way until I remembered they were assholes and decided to get in front of them and not worry bout it!
BUT THEN.
Nicole Atkins and the Sea saved the day! She's brills, ya'll. Her voice is amazing and the songs are so good. I think she's great. I loved the line when she was saying she was going to play her heavy metal song and then said, "keep in mind, this is my version of heavy metal" I love funny people (it's true).
I'm excited for her one day to come back to Philadelphia so we can go see her again. Hopefully next time Karen won't let us fuckin down, I'll see signs better, and the World Cafe Live will get rid of the tables on the damned floor so we won't have to move out of the way of waiters with foods and drinks every 5 minutes. DUH, people, DUH.but seriously, nicole atkins? amazing!
